How did WoodWear by Andrea start?

My awe-inspiring father has everything to do with how WoodWear by Andrea started. My mother and father own two businesses, one which is called Custom Laser Accents, where my father creates beautiful custom wooden plaques, picture frames, ornaments, and MUCH more! They are mainly geared toward the retired and active duty military, where their products have even made it to the Pentagon!

So why did WoodWear start? My freshman year of college I was browsing around target one day when I saw a pair of wooden earrings, and in that moment I thought “My dad could do this!” and I instantly become overwhelmed with the possibilities of what he could create.

I immediately went home to my dad and told him that he HAD to start making jewelry. I pitched my idea, “You have the wood, the materials and the equipment, its perfect!” He agreed that my idea was a good one, but he quickly followed by saying that he had way too much on his plate and well frankly, that he knew nothing about jewelry… Being the supportive father that he is, he suggested that I take the idea and do it myself. In that moment, I decided to take this concept that I so badly wanted my dad to create and I made it my personal venture.

Everyone in my family supported the idea, and business names and ideas started flowing in. It all happened so fast, and I honestly can’t remember who shouted WoodWear, but the minute I heard it, I was sold. Almost as fast as I fell in love with the name WoodWear I added BY ANDREA to officially make it mine; and that was it, I had an idea and a name and there was no looking back.

At the time, I was completing my degree in Communications at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. My goal was to become a radio host and I thought, I can do this on the side to work my way through college. WoodWear slowly began to grow and become a bigger and bigger part of my life.

I have always been a creative person who loves to be hands on, so finding an avenue to hone in on that skill and desire was something truly amazing for me. Not only do I get to be artsy and create amazing products that I'm proud of, I’m blessed that I was able to learn my craft from my Father which means the world to me. I never thought WoodWear would become something that I loved to do so much but it has become my passion and my career. I am very lucky to be able to work for my family businesses and at the same time, continue to put my love, effort and ideas into my little idea that is now WoodWear by Andrea.

WoodWear began and grew on the popular site Etsy, and I am very grateful to have had that platform to launch and grow my business. With this website, WoodWear is now ready to spread its wings and ride solo.

I am always coming up with new ideas, looking for new shops to share my products with and connecting with my customers any way that I can, as I continue to give WoodWear by Andrea 100% of my love and effort.

Thank you for your past, present, and future support.

Andrea.
